Podiatry, still sometimes called by its old name, Chiropody, is an allied health profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and management of medical conditions and injuries of the foot, ankle and lower limb.

The scope of podiatry ranges from the treatment of minor problems, like corns and calluses, to more serious problems, like complex structural foot problems.

What is a podiatrist?

A podiatrist is a trained health professional that deals with the foot, ankle and lower extremity.

To practice podiatry in Australia, you must be registered under The Podiatry Board of Australia. Registration as a podiatrist is only possible after completeion of a university degree in podiatric medicine, or health sciences majoring in Podiatry.
